  • Australian Cross Country Championships 2023 on 25 to 28 August 2023 at Stromlo Forest Park, Stromlo ACT

Click here for event information including NSW Selection criteria. We recommend reading the FAQ page as well - click here. A few questions have been extracted below (as at 20 June 2023).

What are the age groups and how many athletes can be selected?

For able body athletes, Athletics NSW will select teams in the Under 14, Under 15, Under 16, Under 17 and Under 18, Under 20 and Open age groups. In the age groups Under 14-Under 18, 10 athletes will be selected per age/gender. In the Open and Under 20 age groups, Athletics NSW will select a team of 6 athletes. However, any number of additional competitors may compete. Additional competitors must still, nominate through the nomination/entry process defined in the selection policy.

For Para events, Athletics NSW will select teams in the Under 15, Under 17, Under 20 and Open age groups. Each age/gender can have up to 10 athletes selected.

What are prerequisites for selection?

All athletes must be registered with Athletics NSW. Athletes must also compete during the 2023 Athletics NSW waratah series. See section 6 of the selection criteria and section 3 (athlete eligibility) in the Athletics NSW selection policy.

How do I get selected?

In the Under 14, Under 15, Under 16, Under 17 and Under 18 age groups, selections are from made results in the NSW Cross Country (17th June) and NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships (8th July). Athletes in these age groups who do not compete in one of these two events will not be able to qualify, regardless of circumstances. Please see section 4 and 5 in the selection criteria.

Do I need to nominate to be considered?

Yes, all athletes will need to nominate, including those that wish to be considered for a rolldown position. Click here to nominate. The timelines for nominations are as follows.

  • Monday 19th June 2023 - Nominations Open
  • Tuesday 11th July 2023 - Nominations Close
  • Wednesday 26th July 2023 - Entries close

Once Athletics NSW confirms your selection, an athlete has until 26th July 2023 to confirm their position by paying the entry fee and levy. Athletics NSW will remove any athlete that does not enter by the 26th July 2023 and offer the position to the next athlete via the roll down.

Athletes hoping to be selected in the NSW Schools team are encouraged to only submit their final entry (including payment) after the All Schools at Eastern Creek. For clarity, they must still nominate from the 19th June 2023 to be considered for selection.
