Regional Championships

Balmain Little Athletics is part of Region 8 which is made up of two Zones - Inner City and Southern Metropolitan. Athletes qualify for the LANSW Regional Championship based on performances at the Inner City Zone Championships. U7 athletes that competed at Zone do not progress to the Regional competition. U8 athletes compete at the Regional Championships but do not progress beyond this carnival.
The Regional Championships is usually held on a weekend in early February. In the 2021/22 season it was held on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20, 2022 at The Crest Athletics Track, McMlean St, Bass Hill, the home track of Bankstown Sports Athletics.

The Club prepares a briefing note and FAQs document regarding the Regional Championships closer to the time.  The final Region 8 Championship Program (with heat and lane draws) and full list of Balmain athlete qualifiers will be posted here once finalised.
A parent or carer from each family is required to assist during the weekend by completing at least one duty of a little over an hour. There are spots to be filled and these can be selected at a time that suits. Please follow the link to nominate a duty.
The first two placegetters (U9-U17) in each event at the Regional Championships will automatically progress to the State Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre. This event is usuallyu  on the 19th & 20th March 2022. Little Athletics NSW then selects the next best eight clear final performances from across all of the Regions, subject to qualifying standards for some events, to make up to a maximum of 24 athletes in each event.
The parents of all competing athletes MUST commit to undertaking a rostered duty at the Regional Championships.
